Jīnzu: jeans uit Japan

De Newfound Comrades lampen Bīkon, Doshī en Hippī zijn nu ook in jeans verkrijgbaar. Deze jeans komt uit Okayama, een streek beroemd om hun Ikat. Garen indigo verven zit daar in de genen en toen in de jaren 70 van de vorige eeuw spijkerstof populair werd wisten ze daar wel raad mee. De uitzonderlijke kwaliteit van deze Japanse jīnzu veroverde de wereld. De authentieke selvedge (zelfkant) denim wordt op machines in smalle breedtes geweven. Vroeger was dat formaat precies goed voor kimono's, vandaag is het perfect voor onze handgemaakte lampen. De zelfkant met de rode draad staat voor premium kwaliteit en laten we natuurlijk graag zien.

The Newfound Comrades lamps Bīkon, Doshī and Hippī are now also available in jeans. This denim comes from Okayama, an area famous for their Ikat. Dyeing yarn indigo is in their genes and when denim became popular in the 1970s, they knew what to do with it. The exceptional quality of this Japanese jīnzu conquered the world. The authentic selvedge denim is woven in narrow widths on machines. That size used to be just right for kimonos, today it's perfect for our handmade lamps. The selvedge with the red thread stands for premium quality and we are of course happy to show it. 

Oorspronkelijk werd Bīkon ontworpen als tafellamp voor een restaurant: op tafel voelt hij zich thuis en brengt hij veel sfeer - een kaars is dan overbodig. Maar de kleine lamp is ook perfect om een donkere hoek op te lichten. Veel plaats neemt hij niet, hij past vast in de boekenkast en zeker op vensterbank of schoorsteenmantel. Kameraad Bīkon is ook een aangenaam zacht bedlampje of een maatje naast de laptop, gezellig, als je lang moet doorwerken. Bīkon in jeans heeft een rood stofsnoer.

Originally, Bīkon was designed as a table lamp for a restaurant: it feels at home on the table and creates a lot of atmosphere - a candle is then superfluous. But the small lamp is also perfect for lighting up a dark corner. It does not take up much space, it fits in the bookcase and certainly on the windowsill or mantelpiece. Bīkon is also a pleasantly soft bedside lamp or a companion next to the laptop, cozy if work never seems finished. Bīkon in jeans has a red fabric cord.

Doshī is ontworpen als lamp voor naast de bank of bij het hoofdeinde van het bed. Hij is gemaakt om solistisch te schitteren. Paarsgewijs, dus links én rechts van bed of bank een lamp, is natuurlijk een echte klassieke opstelling. Accentueer dan de symmetrie door de stoffen snoer-tuitjes naar buiten te laten wijzen.

Kameraad Doshī heeft precies de juiste hoogte, op het nachtkastje of bijzettafel staat hij goed. Fraai en zeker ook een beetje deftig oogt hij op een hoge consoletafel. Op een extra breed bureau of werktafel komt deze kameraad ook goed tot zijn recht. Doshī in jeans heeft een rood stofsnoer.

Doshī is designed as a lamp for next to the sofa or at the head of the bed. It is made to shine on its own. Paired, so a lamp to the left and right of the bed or sofa, is of course a real classic arrangement. Doshī has just the right height, it looks good on the bedside table or side table. It looks beautiful and certainly a bit dignified on a high console table. On an extra wide desk or work table this lamp wil evoke admiration. Doshī in jeans has a red fabric cord.

Kameraad Hippī is ontworpen als een vloerlamp. De smalle hoge kap geeft de lamp een héél klein beetje een jaren zestig retro-twist. Kameraad Hippī kan direct op de grond staan of op een lage tafel/bank. En laatst zagen we hem op een dressoir staan, onverwachts maar erg mooi. Hippī in jeans heeft een rood stofsnoer.

Hippī is designed as a floor lamp. The narrow high shade gives the lamp a little bit of a sixties retro twist. Comrade Hippī can stand directly on the floor or on a low table/bench. And recently we saw him standing on a dresser, unexpected but very beautiful. Hippī in jeans has a red fabric cord.
